Lorient is a city with around 58 000 inhabitants, situated in the south of Brittany (northwest of France). One of its characteristics is its 5 ports: marina, fishing, commercial, military and passengers.

Presentation

The Lycee Saint Louis is a private high school situated in Lorient, which welcomes about 1 000 pupils from 10th to 12th grade. It offers both general and technological teachings.

In order to prepare the students to a higher education, a social and occupational integration, several kinds of international mobility are proposed by the Lycee Saint-Louis.

Exchanges with schools situated in : Ludwigshafen, Florida, Colorado

Currently, we are thinking about a new partnership for exchanges with a high school in the province of Shandong (China).

 

Individual mobility:

The students taking part in an individual mobility program have to leave abroad, in contact with a pen friend who has already been welcomed at the Lycee Saint-Louis and in his pen friend’s family.

This teaching allows students to improve their linguistic skills:

They learn a lot of vocabulary thanks to authentic texts and the listening of audio/audiovisual documents
They can improve their level at speaking
The language becomes a communication tool
Students go into their cultural knowledge in depth

 

In the 10th and 11th grades, the courses allow the development of the language in several situations and with different forms: research, work on audio documents, videos and texts. There’s not much work to do at home, but initiatives are encouraged.

 

Other advantages of the European class

Conferences about Europe and the possibilities for young people within the European Community are proposed all along the year.

 

Cinema

10th grade (3h/week)

It corresponds to an initiation course to the language of images and sounds and it shows the complexity of movies.

 

Activities:

Realization exercises (photo, video, sound, editing)
Analysis of parts of movies, TV shows, videos, photos
Study of different kinds of work : fiction, documentary, video-art, TV show, music video

All these activities lead to a final project: the realization of a movie (limited duration) as accomplished as possible.

 

In 11th and 12th grades, the cinema option becomes a specialized teaching for students preparing a Literature baccalaureate.

 

11th grade (5h/week)

Go into the use of tools in depth as well as the technical and linguistic knowledge.

Practical exercises of realization: writing, filming, editing focused on the education of the look.

Analysis of several productions to understand the story of representation and the evolution steps of movie language.

Work on a corpus of productions to think about the story of cinema.

 

12th grade (5h/week)

Tools and techniques: go deeper into the technical and linguistic knowledge, as well as the economic situation of modern cinema and audiovisual.

Practice: shooting script, storyboard, scenario.. Production directed by the students.

Analysis of the 3 movies indicated in the exam curriculum, and study of some characteristic works of the modern production.

Meeting with professionals of cinema and audiovisual.

 

Japanese

From 10th to 12th grade (1h30 or 3h/week according to the number of pupils)

Discovering Japan: daily life, mentality, customs thanks to different educational working groups :

Theatre

The “Nord-Nord-Ouest” group is the drama workshop of Saint-Louis. It’s opened to every student who really wants to be involved in this activity. Main ideas :

Intellectual and artistic opening
Self-discovery and also of other people
Sharing of a creation process and a scenic experience

 

The workshop is led by M. Yvon RAUDE, holder of a state diploma on drama teaching. The group can present its creations within the high school, but also outside such as during festivals or other events.
